A funny commentary....I am interested in how varied people will react to work like this....

I am going to post some cups made by ceramic artist Eric Pardue. He uses transfers in his work. This is regarding your cell phone.

Why is it a woman's phone?

Why is it a women's phone...for the same reason that a Virginia slim is a 'women's cigarette'...when I looked at this old product I chose to generalize and judge the phone by its' light color and smooth surface as being a product that would attract a female buyer...I have also included the old images of women on the tiles placed on the phone, which may add a level of confusion to the work...I like t he thought that some man could have this phone and this is his secret place where he would hide contact info of all the women he may be dating at the same time...so, I attempt to leave this work open to the multiple perspectives of whatever viewer may interact with the piece...perhaps it is a statement about sexism, or maybe a statement about women who may use these devices or maybe it is even pointing at the out of style nature of the subject matter...I wish to leave the interpretation open to the viewer...

Would this look like a man's phone with GQ images substituted for the women? Either way they are both stereotyped portrayals. Gender roles are hard for me to accept. I think gender is a much more dubious condition.
What interests me is contemporary objects being depicted in traditional mediums. There is a woman in the UK who has done this very nicely. Her name is Lynne Setterington. I will post a link or photo.
