M. Buchanan: Gallery Notes
After visiting both the Reynolds Gallery and The Visual Arts Center I found myself most interested in the art that was composed using sectional design components. In Cowboys and Indians vertical strips divide the canvas. Three bands of color with a variety of brush strokes, line and rectilinear forms are distinguished from one another but still form a successful whole.
The Series of Graces that I am working on requires the ability to successfully unify three figures joined by seams. How I choose to make one panel relevant to the other and still maintain the division of space is my current challenge.

interesting juxtaposition! Will you rely on color or pattern or both to unify the components of this piece? The grayscale is different... and compelling in an unexpected way.
Some of the patterning will carry over from panel to panel. The figures will also touch in some areas. I just picked up some prints to use as tools for study.
I commented on this one earlier and also on the blue fabric post, but I don't see my comments. Let me know if I need to try to repost my comments.
Sometimes they seem to "publish" immediately - as above. And sometimes a little red dot appears above them and I assumed that meant it needed to be "moderated" by Amie before being published. But maybe it just indicates a glitch - which would explain why my earlier comments are not there?? Anyway - if you see this, I just want to let you know I'm looking and commenting! I think I may need to do this only from school on my Dell, since my Mac doesn't seem to like interacting with this blog as much.
I have tried four times to post a comment to Mary’s web site and Megan’s comments on it. The “prove you’re not a robot” test words won’t let me pass, despite my typing correctly four sets of words, so I must be a robot. Here is my comment:
“I really like your Dementia series. It is so tantalizing only seeing pictures. It certainly makes me want to see the real, textured objects. I looked up Schendel and Hesse. I can see the connection with Schecndel's drawings.”
