Studio Notes

Reminder : Aggie Zed and John Morgan will be presenting an exhibition and artist talk / slide lecture on their work at Westminster Canterbury this Thursday. Please RSVP today, Wednesday, if you plan to attend! So far, Mary is the only name I know to add to the list at the gatehouse.

Read your artist statements aloud. Ask someone whose voice you'll really listen to to read it aloud to you. What do you hear? Can you follow it easily? Does it flow well AND communicate your intentions with clarity? If not, continue to revise!

I am available to meet anyone who needs a critical eye / help with blogger at the Lamplighter tomorrow at 5pm. If you plan to attend Aggie / John's lecture and would like to bring work to get feedback on afterwards, that's fine, too.

In the meantime, it is essential to:
*spell check your posts before you post them
*to sign your posts and comments!

Stay tuned for more info here on our final crit location!

Amie mentioned the Catch 22 auction at the 1708 Gallery. (Sorry - can't find that comment, so I'm posting a reply here.) It was WONDERFUL! It was very educational for me since I hadn't been to an art auction of that sort. It was all very polished and well organized. One thing that surprised me and made me feel very uncomfortable for the artist was that ONE piece of art was unsold at the end of the evening. It seemed to me that SOMEONE ought to bid on it. After all, all the pieces were bargains at their starting bids, and it WAS a fund-raiser... and many of the people there could have bought it and not noticed the difference in their wallets. I feel very bad for the artist. But, apart from that little cloud, it seemed to be a splendid evening. I managed to do the clicking to advance the slide show without mishap! (Well, after all, I am a Media Specialist :-) ) It was really fun.

This was a wonderful talk and reception. Both artists were very amicable and expressed their influences clearly. It was interesting to read that Aggie Zed's father was a television repair man. That and life on Sullivan's Island before it became so fancy seem to be important references in her work.

Thanks, Amie, for passing on to us this invitation, which would not have been open to us otherwise. Leslie Messersmith, the events coordinator, said that if we wanted to return to look at the works, we can just explain at the gate that we are going to see the John Morgan and Aggie Zed Show, and mention her name. I found all the technical details useful.
