I really liked the screen prints on water. First of all, there was the tingling realization that these were not representations of screen prints on water (with the water represented by resin or plastic), but real charcoal floating delicately and vulnerably on real water. The meeting of the charcoal, paper and water made endlessly ambiguous shapes and textures. I forget now – did it say that at the end of the evaporation process, he eventually fixes and preserves the resulting dried image on the bottom of the Plexiglas tray?

I will be able to talk about these in particular next Wednesday as I participated in this installation. The gum arabic in the charcoal is key to his process and the results varies - but we'll see evidence of this on Wed!
Looking forward to it. I'm so happy my comments are posting OK now!
Experiencing this combination of traditional materials and processes with newer media was very gratifying. The projected video allowed the viewer to experience the tangible nature of the artist's materials.
Water, stone, heat and digital files are virtually cost free and reabsorbed by the environment from which they came. The work has a strong visual and political impact and at the same time is completely equitable.
